During Halloween nights, a certain event is organized by local wild Gengars on route 209 of the Sinnoh region. In this event, the Gengars invite several Pokémon to a scare competition, with the promise that the winner will be granted a wish.
In one of these contests, a group of three wild Monfernos failed in their attempts to frighten those passing through the route. Then, fearing defeat, the three had a nefarious idea.
That night, the Lost Tower received an unexpected visit from this group of Monfernos who began searching the bodies of Pokémon in the tombs, one by one. The three Pokémon planned to use the skeletons of those who had passed away to create scary costumes and take the lead in the competition.
The search for materials began in a particularly large tomb, upon viewing the skeleton, they concluded that it probably belonged to a Rhydon.
There were several tombs that they quickly visited, counting Pokémon such as Omastar, Magmar and Scizor. The Monfernos, just didn't expect that while they continued to spite those who were already gone, one of the Pokémon trained to protect the Lost Tower, silently watched them from afar while using their psychic powers.
After finishing their horrendous work, the Mofernos were about to leave the Lost Tower, when a Pokémon very similar to Hypno, but containing its deformed body, approached them.
The Monfernos were frightened by the bizarre image of the Pokémon and tried to escape, but suddenly all the exits from the Lost Tower were closed. Fearing the worst they tried to fight, but were quickly overwhelmed by the Pokémon's psychic powers. Before fainting, the Monfernos heard the Pokémon say the following words in a dialect that only they could understand:
"Your irreverent acts towards those who have already left end here. I came here dressed in the flesh of those you insulted to give a warning. Go away and never come back, because next time I won't just scare you."
The Monfernos woke up at dawn, in a place far from route 209, but it was still possible to see the Lost Tower in the distance. They quickly fled until the tower was no longer visible.
At the same time in the Lost Tower, the Hypno guardian of the place was grateful for the fact that he was so experienced in hypnosis and manipulating illusions, as it was easy to trick those Pokémon, forcing them to leave and never return. He had to protect that tower with all his strength after all! Because that was the mission that his beloved trainer gave him, many, many years ago. . .
