EV
EV is short for Effort Value.
All pokemon yield the same kind & number of EVs as other regular Pokémon games. You can check the
Sinnoh,
Jvaloh and
Hoenn spawnguides to check EV gains for fainting a pokemon. This will also be shown for event spawns in their guides.
After defeating a pokemon, EVs can be chosen to not be automatically "allocated" in this game (pop up when first gaining EV & option in settings). They then instead get added as "unallocated" EVs (U/EVs).
Players can allocate EVs from the unallocated pool with the slider on the pokemon dialog EV screen.
The maximum number of total allocated EVs is 510.
The maximum number of allocated and unallocated EVs for a particular stat is 252.
The maximum number of allocated and unallocated EVs overall is 756.
Once EVs are invested, they cannot be changed without using special items.

Training EVs
As explained earlier, EV's can be gained by fainting wild pokemon, each giving their own EV yield.
But this can also be increased/modified by using held items.
1. Exp. Share & Macho Brace
The
Exp. Shares from the shops (Blaze Coin & Dynite Ore), give the EV gained by the first pokemon in team to the first Exp. Share holding pokemon in the team.
Example:
- 1st slot pokemon Toucannon faints a Bidoof => Toucannon gets 100% Experience +1 (unallocated) HP EV.
- 2nd slot pokemon Trumbeak gets nothing
- 3rd slot pokemon Pikipek holding an Untradable Exp. Share (gained early in Sinnoh story & potentially more places) gets 50% Experience + no EV.
- 4th slot pokemon Arceus holding an Exp. Share (gained from shops/trading) gets 50% Experience + 1 (unallocated) HP EV.
- 5th slot pokemon Giratina holding an Exp. Share (gained from shops/trading) gets 50% Experience + no EV.
The
Macho Brace is gained only through the Dynite Ore Shop. It is to be equipped by the first pokemon in party & doubles the gained EV from fainting the pokemon. It also halves your pokemon's speed while holding the Macho Brace (so during the training).
Implemented in above example, it would mean that:
- the 1st slot pokemon Toucannon gets 100% Experience + 2 (unallocated) HP EV
- The 4th slot pokemon Arceus will still get 50% Experience & only 1 (unallocated) HP EV
- The other pokemon also have no change.
2. Power Items
For me, the best way to EV training is using these held items. They give 8(!) EV of their specific yield when fainting wild pokemon with the pokemon holding this item. They also half your pokemon's speed while holding the
power item (so during the training).
They are gained through the
Daycare Shop, costing 200 Daycare Coins.
| Power Item | Name | EV Yield |
| Power Weight | HP |
| Power Attack | Attack |
| Power Belt | Defense |
| Power Lens | Special Attack |
| Power Band | Special Defense |
| Power Anklet | Speed |
3. Fused Exp. Shares
Kanto has a couple Engineer wizards in the local Daycare. They can create several special exp shares, some of which effect EV gain.
This is fully explained in this
guide. (SoonTM)
