12th June 2024:

Genesect OU ban:
Hi @everyone all sorry for the belated announcement, also i am new to all of this so bear with me.

The PvP Council has come to an agreement that Genesect should be banned with immediate effect. ( The votes were 6 for yes, 1 for no and 1 unsure vote)

Reasoning;

We in the PvP council feel that Genesect is too restricting for the current PBO meta and hinders proper team building. It got unbanned at the start of Hoenn to test it in the current Meta, but yet again it's proven to outshine, dominant and restrict OU .

Being able to surpass all it's Counters by running Specialized 'Douse Drive' or Simply equipping a Choice Scarf. With access to its ability Download, Movebank, and a Vast Movepool it could potentially counter everything. it's just way to Versatile and Powerful for current meta game.

14th September 2024:

Darkrai OU ban:
Greetings @everyone

Hope all is well and that you guys are enjoying the new update. With the update we got some nice new Pokémon, but one stood out from the rest and that was Darkrai.

We in the PvP council have come to an agreement that Darkrai should be banned with immediate effect.

We Strongly believe that it would have a negative impact on current PBO Meta, as we dont have nearly enough checks to it to maintain a healthy Meta. Access to a vast move pool and staggering 125 speed and 135 sp atk its nigh impossible to deal with it. Its signature move (Dark Void) and ability (Bad Dreams) is also a huge reason as to why we think it should be banned, even without Dark Void it gets access to Hypnosis as well. Sleep got banned in gen9 and Darkrai was a huge reason as to why it happened. We feel with all these tools it has we couldn't allow it to be introduced into the OU Meta.

Once we get access to more Pokémon that can deal with it in a healthy way, we will revisit this case.

Also, I have received a few pms in here and ingame about what they believe should be banned / unbanned while i have nothing against and try to relay all the messages to the PvP council. It would better serve the community if you would post in the Discord - Group Chat That’s All Fun & Games so the whole community can get involved and discuss things.

Hope you all have a great day.

11th October 2024:

Hearthflame Mask OU ban: (Ogerpon-Heartflame)
Greetings @everyone

I hope you all are good and are enjoying all the updates we are getting.

Im here again to announce that the PvP Council have come to a unanimous decision to ban Ogerpon-Hearthflame. The votes were 7 for yes, 2 for no and 2 indecisive votes.

Ogerpon-hearthflame has always been a controversial ever since it got introduced in Pbo. One of the main reasons it didn't get banned immediately was because we lack terrestrialization and also we wanted to see how it would impact the bulky meta we had on Pbo.

Now after some time it's clear it has negative impact on the meta, with great stat distribution huge movepool and great ability makes it unpredictable and hard to counter consistently. It has great synergy with web teams that makes it almost nigh impossible to deal with. It forces niche counters to be able to deal with it and even then it's not a guarantee way to deal with it.

It has become the vocal point of the meta and every team centres around it, so we feel a ban help promote the meta become more diverse and hopefully more balanced. Feel free to discuss this in the PvP channel what your thought are.

Thanks for your attention and hope you all have a great day!

Discussions held so far (where there was no clear ban vote) up to this point:

  • NOT APPLIED: Sleep clause => ban all sleeping moves
This was discussed because Showdown decided to take this change. PvP-Council in PBO decided that we do not need to make this drastic change at this point. As we have darkrai banned & don't see a reason to unban it (without making this drastic change & even if we change this, darkrai will still be an extreme threat in OU with lack of counter mons in PBO available at this time)

  • NOT APPLIED: Slowbro unban in UU
We decided to keep slowbro banned in UU because in PBO, slowbro still has all his threats where in other games it loses teleport and/or future sight and/or scald.
National Dex learnsets make slowbro still to strong for UU tier.

  • NOT APPLIED: Dondozo ban in OU
After some feedback from community, this idea was shortly discussed but quickly dismissed as for starters, dondozo was not really that much of a wall to be considered Ubers and on top of that not shortly after there were even more capable wall breakers added in PBO.

  • NOT APPLIED: Knock off on Kingambit ban // kingambit ban in OU
In Gen 9, kingambit does not learn knock off. However we are using national dex, so in PBO it does learn knock off through pawniard/bisharp & then evolving.
This was a fairly close vote in the end, but in the end dismissed because albeit extremely strong, what got him banned in showdown was mostly terrastalizing & we are working on bringing more usable counters against him to PBO (eg iron valiant was added since then).

Greetings @everyone Hope you all are having a good week and enjoying your time in pbo. Im here again to make a quick announcement about the uu tier. With UU being recently added to cw it has gain a lot of popularity and community seems to enjoy it a lot. The PvP council feels its a great time to unban / ban pokemon from the tier to make a shift in the meta. We are doing this not create chaos or to break the tier but to help by give more options in team building and it would also benefit few pokemon being dropped down to UU. The list of pokemon currently being discussed comes from the community as well as the pvp council. As I'm posting this right now the voting has started within the council, but it would be hugely helpful if you all shared your thoughts on it in the pvp.So without further ado here is the list

From OU to UU
  • Weavile
  • Keldeo
  • Slowbro
  • Heatran
  • Victini
  • Greninja (Protean)
  • Zeraora
  • Jirachi
  • Blaziken
  • Celesteela
From UU to OU
  • Skeledirge
  • Quaquaval
  • Ogerpon-Cornerstone
  • Zapdos-Galar
Cheers. MushroomCult

Hi @everyone
Hope you all had a great weekend and also looking forward to the Christmas event.

The PvP Council has come to agreement to ban Ursaluna from the UU tier.

It shouldn't come as a surprise as it has been a topic of discussion for a few weeks, with its crazy high attack stat and really impressive physical bulk it's nearly impossible to deal with.
The Current UU meta can't deal with it in a healthy way. Regarding the other Pokémon mentioned in the previous post, we felt like more data is needed on them and also to see how the meta develops without Ursaluna.

And as always if there is something that's needs to looked into OU/UU please dont be afraid and start a conversation in pvp

All the best,
MushroomCult

(tldr ursaluna banned from uu others no final decision happened [so still unbanned on all tiers])

Hello @everyone
I hope you all had a great christmas and belated happy new years!

Im here today to announce that the PvP council have come to an agreement that Goodra-Hisuian should be banned from UU. The votes were 7 for yes, 2 neutral votes and 2 no votes. Goodra-Hisuian has become a UU staple for obviously reasons, with great typing and great defensive stats it can handle almost anything in the meta with ease. There is obviously ways of dealing with it but its a combination of Goodra + other walls that makes it so hard to deal with. But it's not just its special oriented set that is a problem there is also its Life Dew + Iron Defence set can cause a lot problems. Its greatest and most used set (Assault Vest) can deal with anything in the meta with lite to no effort.
The feeling within the PvP council is that Goodra is too dominated for the tier, limits teambuilding capabilities and over time it could cause the tier to become stagnate. We will keep a close eye on the tier and see how it develops now without Goodra, please share your thoughts on it all.

All the best, MushroomCult
